Vacancy: Lead Youth Worker

Hours: Full Time - 37hrs per week (worked flexibly as needed, must include: Sunday 12-4pm, Monday 12-9 pm, Tuesday & Wednesday Lunchtimes & occasional Evenings)

Salary: up to £22,249 PA (dependent upon experience) Plus 5% Pension   

Contract: 3 Years Fixed-Term (possibility of extension)

Probation: 3 Months  

Starting Date: ASAP

Location: St Laurence Church, Friar St, Reading, RG1 1DA (and other various off-site locations where youth work activities take place)

Reports to: Youth Work Director/Vicar   


St Laurence is an Anglican Church with young people at its heart located in the centre of Reading. For the last 16 years we have given ourselves to the vision of living to see young people come to faith and build new forms of Church with them.

 

Job Purpose/Summary

As a multi-generational church with a specific vocation to young people, we seek to employ staff to enable and facilitate the ministry of the whole community. There is a vacancy for the key role of  Lead Youth Worker, working alongside the Youth Work Director, the Vicar, Associate Vicar, Leadership Team and all members of the community to greater serve and enable our vision. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated female individual, exceptionally gifted in youth work and motivated to see the good news of Jesus transform young lives. She will be able to throw herself into this community dedicated to serving young people and provide particular input into the young women with whom we regularly engage.

The post-holder will play a significant role in:

  • providing and coordinating the pastoral support and care of the girls of the church.

  • evangelism amongst young people, and nurturing and growing young people as disciples.

  • serving the church in both the planning and delivery of loving and serving the young people of Reading

  • identifying, training, empowering and resourcing volunteers working with young people, most particularly those working with girls.

  • Within all four of these areas the post holder will take a lead on the breadth of how good safeguarding practice can make the difference to day to day life in every level of the church’s engagement with young people.
