COULD YOU BE OUR 2025/26 INTERN?

Do you have a heart for children and young people?
Are you passionate about seeing them encounter Jesus, grow in faith, and follow Him?

We’re looking for someone eager to dive into ten months of hands-on ministry, intentional training, and transformation. Whether you’re exploring a call to ministry, looking to grow in leadership, or simply hungry to serve, our internship offers a unique opportunity to journey deeper in faith while making a real difference.

If that sounds like you, keep reading to discover more about what our intern programme involves and how it might just be the next step Jesus is calling you to take.

  • Saint Laurence, Reading is a vibrant, town-centre church with a heart for young people, especially those who don’t yet know Jesus.

We're looking for an intern to join our team and help us live out our vision: "Living to see unchurched young people come to faith and be shaped as church together with them."

Over the past few years, we have seen the increasing demand and opportunity in our youth work, particularly through outreach at Blessed Hugh Faringdon School and our growing church-based youth programmes. Hosting an intern would allow us to:

    • Increase our relational capacity, ensuring young people are well-supported and discipled

    • Build stronger bridges between schools outreach, and church engagement

    • Grow our volunteer support and sustainability across midweek groups

    • Invest intentionally in the next generation of Christian leaders

    • Support our growing children’s ministry

Saint Laurence has previously hosted interns, and these placements have been highly fruitful both for the individuals involved and for the life of the church.

  • Our Youth and Children’s Intern would primarily serve two weekdays, Mondays and Wednesdays, plus Sundays (when available), as well as occasional weekends and holiday activities. They would work under the supervision of Andrew (Youth Worker) and alongside volunteers and staff.

    Their involvement would include:

    • Monday Club – supporting our weekly youth group

    • The Lounge (Soulscape) – representing Saint Laurence at school lunchtimes on Mondays and Wednesdays

    • Wednesday Youth Small Group – helping plan and lead Bible-based discipleship sessions

    • Big Questions – participating in open, honest conversations with young people exploring faith

    • Sundays - assistanting and supporting the running of services and groups

    • Youth Weekends Away – assisting with residential youth trips

    • School Holiday Activities – helping with holiday activities and other one-off events

    • Children’s work – support and lead children’s church and other one-off events

Other areas – contributing to worship, media, and other areas as required

For 2025/26 we are looking for one intern to join our team with the role description below -

YOUTH AND CHILDREN'S INTERN (PART-TIME)

As our Youth and Children’s Intern, you'll:

  • Get stuck into youth and children’s ministry, from messy games to deep conversations

  • Help lead weekly groups, Sunday gatherings, schools work, and holiday activities

  • Be part of a passionate and supportive staff team

  • Receive regular supervision, training, and opportunities to grow in leadership and faith

  • Opportunity to gain a certificate in youth work with a recognised youth organisation

This role is perfect for someone exploring a call to ministry, looking for a gap year experience, or wanting to invest a year serving Jesus in a fun, faith-stretching environment.

We’ll support the successful applicant in finding employment that complements the programme, or, where needed, explore additional support to enable their participation.

Allowance: £6,000 contribution towards living expenses, travel with the cost of a training course covered in addition (the course may require a separate application and interview)
